Q: I have a WD Hard drive 2060-771642-001 Rev A, Model WD15EADS-00R6B0. You show the PCB board for this model as Type 1 and Type 2 (with and without bios chip), Looking at your two picture I really can’t tell the difference in the two types. Both appear to have a chip that looks like the bios chip. Can you give me an more guidance on how to distinguish the two types so I can order a board?

A: Please check the clear photos.

The part in the red circle doesn’t have any chips. This is the type of without BIOS one. It mean this PCB’s BIOS is integrated on the Main Controller IC. You should exchange the Main Controller IC to let the HDD be recognized. Move the Main Controller IC(the biggest chip on the board) is a complex job which need you have certain techique. Some electronics repair shop can do it.

We can see there is a chip in the circle. This is the type of  with BIOS one. When you get this PCB, you need to move your original PCB’s BIOS to the replacement PCB.
