Q1: Hi I used the wrong power supply and I think I fried my board. I think I need a PCB board or the board that plugs into it that has the USB 3 connector and power plug. There is another component that plugs into the PCB board that when I replaced with a older model got the HD to spin and my computer recognized but could not read the disk. I think because the HD is probably encrypted. I’m trying to find a board for the WD 4 TB SATA #: WD40EZRX the PCB board number is 2060-771945-001 Do you know what I need?

Q2: I have a WD20EZRX- 00D8PBO drive that has a broken power connector.  The board  ID is 2060-771945-001 REV A. Can you help me? If so how much will it cost and what do I need to do.

A: 2060-771945-001 is your donor PCB. You also need to move your orignal PCB’s BIOS to the replacement PCB.

Q: I have a WD Hard drive 2060-771642-001 Rev A, Model WD15EADS-00R6B0. You show the PCB board for this model as Type 1 and Type 2 (with and without bios chip), Looking at your two picture I really can’t tell the difference in the two types. Both appear to have a chip that looks like the bios chip. Can you give me an more guidance on how to distinguish the two types so I can order a board?

A: Please check the clear photos.

2060-771642-001 -12060-771642-001-3

The part in the red circle doesn’t have any chips. This is the type of without BIOS one. It mean this PCB’s BIOS is integrated on the Main Controller IC. You should exchange the Main Controller IC to let the HDD be recognized. Move the Main Controller IC(the biggest chip on the board) is a complex job which need you have certain techique. Some electronics repair shop can do it.

2060-771642-001 -2

We can see there is a chip in the circle. This is the type of  with BIOS one. When you get this PCB, you need to move your original PCB’s BIOS to the replacement PCB.

I saw you have the PCB i need: http://www.hddzone.com/wd-2060771853000-pcb-p-398.html

This numbers exactly match:
Board Number: 2060-771853-000 REV P1
Main Controller IC: 88i9346-TFJ2

I however have a couple of questions:
1. Can you confirm this is the right PCB?
2. Can i replace it without Flash/EEPROM soldering.

A: 1. http://www.hddzone.com/wd-2060771853000-pcb-p-398.html is your donor PCB;
2. The BIOS need to be changed.
You can move the BIOS from your original PCB by using hot-air gun,
then solder it on the replacement board.  Or you can find an electronics repair shop help you.

Q: I have a WD 3TB Green drive which stopped working (did not even spin up).  I believe this was probably due to a power spike.   I got a replacement driver board from you and when I fitted it the drive now spins up but is not recognised by my system when I plug it in to a free SATA port.  I have NOT yet tried to change what I believe is the BIOS chip. I am not actually interested in the current contents of the drive – I am just trying to see if I can resurrect it (if this one works I have several others in a similar state).  I was wondering if in such a case it is still necessary to change the BIOS chip.  I think it may be as you attached a label with arrows pointing to the BIOS chip.  Just thought I should check as it is not worth trying it if that is not going to resurrect the drive anyway.

A: Eevery PCB’s BIOS including the unique informaiton. If you directly swapping PCB, the HDD still can’t work/be recognized. You need to change the BIOS.

This type of PCB has few special one. Some unique information had been wrote on the BIOS, some had been wrote on the Main Controller IC. If changed BIOS, the HDD still can’t be recognized, you need change the Main Controller IC(the biggest chip).

Q: I need a Western Digital 2060-771945-001 Rev. A PCB. I don’t see that listed in your inventory. Is one available, or can you point me to a source?

A: Please refer: http://www.hddzone.com/wd-2060771945001-pcb-p-569.html
When you get this PCB, you need to move your original PCB’s BIOS to the replacement PCB. The 8pins (4 pins on each sides) with 25P05VP、 25P10VP、25F512、25F1024、25F1024AN、SST25VF512、 SST25VF010, etc. are the BIOS.

Q: Thanks for the reply.
I did see that board, but it doesn’t say Rev. A. I’m a novice at this, but what I’ve read suggests that makes a difference.

A: REV A, REV B can be used as same.  If you need REV A, you can make note when you order.

Q: Thanks again. I managed to get some data off the drive, and am now trying to assess the situation. I love to learn new things so I may give it a shot just for the heck of it.
